Progress in Research of Ge Germanium-68 Generator Preparation

Recently, the researchers in our R&D center have independently developed the separation and purification process of Ge Germanium-68.

Futher more, the researchers in our R&D center have developed the preparation technology of Ge Germanium-68 generator.

Our researchers prepare a large-area gallium-nickel alloy target with a gallium mass percent content of about 78 percent through electroplating method. A 5 mJ SnO2-based Ge germanium-68 generator was successfully prepared by bombarding the alloy target with a proton beam current for 10 h and applying an automated separation device with dual columns to separate and purify Ge-68 after cooling. The Ga-68 product obtained in the study had a recovery of more than 70% and a high radioactivity concentration, with a chemical purity of more than 99%, which complies with the standards of the European Pharmacopoeia for medical use.

Further, the researchers achieved labeling of Ga-68 with DOTA-like peptides with a labeling rate of greater than 90%. In addition, the markers have good stability in fetal bovine serum and phosphate buffer.

The study established a dual-column separation process route for the preparation of Ge-68 by gas pedal irradiation, and at the same time mastered the technology for the preparation of alloy target and Ge Germanium-68 generator, laying the foundation for the independent and large-scale production and preparation of the generator in China in the future.
